J & His Brethren
***Start off by reading Genesis Chapter 37...I'll wait...
Have you noticed that Joseph's life (especially before he was sold into slavery) is a remarkable picture of Christ? Let's go back and look at some of the similarities...
"J" will stand for both Joseph & Jesus
37:2 J reports to the Father that his brothers are morally evil
37:3 J was the most beloved son
Coat of many colors: Light=all colors. Jesus is the Light of the world (John 8:12)
37:4 J's brethren hated him
37:5-11 J prophesied that his brethren would bow before him
His brethren hated him because of the Truth
37:12 J's brethren feed the flock in Shechem. "Shechem" means Rebellion
37:13 The Father sends J to the brethren/flock
37:14 J left Hebron where the Father was. "Hebron" means Fellowship
37:15-17 Holy Spirit led J to the brethren/flock
While J was in the field (world),
His brethren were in Dothan (Custom/Law)
37:18 Brethren want to kill J
37:19 They mock J
37:23 They strip J of his coat
37:24 J was cast into a pit
(Jesus died--took the keys to death & the grave)
37:25 Brethren ate bread while J was in the pit
(Feast of Unleavened Bread while Jesus was buried)
Spice bearers took care of J
37:28 J is sold by his brethren for silver
37:29 The pit (tomb) was empty
I just love how everything is connected in the Bible. And I especially enjoy searching for Jesus in the Old Testament--He's All Over It!
I'm sure you'll notice more similarities when you study about Joseph; this was just to get you started. Let me know if you get any cool revelations about it. Oh, I also have to point out that later on, When "J" reigns, His brethren are Restored. --Come Quickly Lord Jesus!!

Verse 8... The hatred that Josephs brothers showed him represents the Jews in Christs day. "He came to his own, and his own recieved him not". He had no form, nor comeliness in their eyes. They would not own him as the Son of God or as the king of Isreal. They hated him.....
